与英国Queen's University 的李博士的初步接触和讨论

Dear Profs and Drs Li and Miss Chen,

Many thanks for your message. I  am so glad to know you are all heavily involved in the study on Chinese therapy
and especially on the Meridian system. It is my great pleasure to know you.

Chinese traditional medicine is first of all a system engineering, which take the  human body as a whole, including diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. This is largely  different from modern western medicine system. However the recent development in  systems biology may make it possible for the two streams of medical philosophies  meet together, therefore leading to possible breakthrough.

I am here attaching  a paper published by my colleague Prof Mengchu Zhou and his colleagues in New Jersey
Institute of Technology in the states. I also know a few other colleagues who are  extremely interested in Chinese medicine.

It seems possible that we establish  an international collaborative network,  and hold regular meetings/symposium/conferences  in China, UK and perhaps in US each year, carry out some mutual academic exchanges,  seeking governmental support from individual countries. While if we could identify  our own
strengths, start some collaborative projects. It may turn out at later  stage that we could carry out some big projects if some preliminary works can confirm the effectiveness of such collaborations.

I am looking forward to learn  more from you all with great interest.

    很高兴这么快得到您的回复,我们研究既相关又有很强的互补性,特别是您在控制与数理方面有很高的造诣,这对我们今后的合作无疑会有巨大的贡献。
    您也许看过《中医的科学探索》(http://www.sciencenet.cn/blog/人为峰.htm)的网页,我之所以把这个作为我今后的最主要的方向,主要有以下三个理由:(1)中医经过实践检验证明其有疗效,而这是祖先们留给我们在自然科学方面的最宝贵、尚未在学术上挖掘的财富。(2)从仪器设备到知识结构、资金到人员,我们(在国内)很难有机会能够与发达国家抗衡,但在中医(医学)可能是(对我来说)唯一有可能做点大一点的事情。(3)从我本人所
具备的条件和资源来说,具有比较优势。
    我目前瞄准经络的机理的研究,经络应该是有其物质(物理)基础的,从经络敏感人到经络的低电阻特性,这为我们的研究提供了可靠的依据。很可能经络上的细胞就主要表现在其电特性上,而电是生命的本质。
    在该方面的研究正在从以下三个方面展开:(1)确定经络的位置与尺寸(特别是深度);(2)测量离体和在体经络细胞的电特性(离子通道的特性);(3)通过单细胞的电特性推导整体(经络)的电特性,或反之。
    我当然希望我们李氏兄弟在该研究上能够有所作为(一句笑话:李氏是人类最大的“姓”,仅有李白等并不多的对文明有贡献的人,似乎不成比例)。
    在其他研究方面,我也希望我们能够合作,我正在完善我的其他网页(请见落款处),到时候请您光临、指导,发表您的高见。

您好。

Dear  Prof Li,
Many thanks indeed for your kind message. I am not quite sure if you can read Chinese emails sent out from my computer, therefore the following is written in English.

I met my classmate Karl last weekend after 16  years, and had long talks. Karl showed your blog and your website, and I am quite impressed on your research, especially  Your interest on the biomedical side, including Chinese medical therapy.

You have an excellent track  record on biomedical instrumentation, which I do not have however here at Queen's
University.

My background is control engineering. So my research  is on control and system identification, and data analysis, mainly on soft computing.

I did not have not much experience on hardware design in the past years. My recent interest is on mircoarray data analysis for disease diagnosis and prognosis, as well as on genetic therapy (mainly systems biology).

I feel  there might be potentially a collaborative case for us as our strengths are complimentary. In the past years, I visited China almost every year and had some collaborative work with colleagues and friends in China, and as well as jointly organised   international conferences.

I plan to visit China again this summer.

I guess we may explore some collaborative research opportunities, as well as collaboration between groups, Schools and two universities.

There are some  wide issues that can be discussed if you are interested.
