The golden evening sunshine was pouring on the plain and the river running quietly through the greens. The spring was in my opinion, the best season in Oxford. The birds were singing happily on the branches and colourful flowers swaying in the gentle breeze.

Inside, the small and peaceful music hall of Jacqueline du Pré in St.Hilda’s College, a few of J.S. Bach’s and G.F. Handel’s pieces were being played by a group of talented musicians named William Bennett (flute), Kate Hill (flute), Helena Brown (harpsichord) and Dietrich Bethge (cello). The pieces included Sonata for Two Flutes and Continuo in G BWV1039, and Sonata for Two Flutes and Continuo in G BWV 524 by J.S. Bach (1685-1750); Sonata for Two Flutes and Continuo in A Major, Sonata for Flute and Continuo No.10 in E minor, and Sonata for Two Flutes and Continuo in G minor by G.F. Handel (1685-1759); ‘London’ Trio in C for Two Flutes and Cello by J. Haydn (1732-1809); and Sonata for Two Flutes and Continuo in E by C.P.E. Bach (1714-1788). William Bennett is one of the most famous flautists in the UKKewPalace for the Queen, on her eightieth birthday. Dietrich Bethge is a co-principal cellist with the English Chamber Orchestra and also the director of London Octave; a group which specializes in works of the baroque and classical eras. . Kate Hill is also a professor of flute at the Royal Academy of Music. Helena Brown is an excellent freelance keyboard player, and recently played the Shudi harpsichord at

The sound from the flutes was like the rain water sinking through a desperate cracking field and made my heart feel soothing. The cello was in its usual sophisticated self and was companying the two flutes wonderfully. It was such a nice occasion to listen to a harpsichord so close by because it would have normally been hidden away in a modern orchestra.

Being in this beautiful setting, one could be so content and appreciate what a wonderful world it was and what a valuable objective that we were all part of it.
